ROUND CORD RINGS (LARGE O-RINGS)

Static seals - The economical production of round cord rings is an alternative to the O-ring as a mass-produced molded part for small quantities. Particularly in machine and plant construction in the chemical industry, often only a few large seals are required for a wide variety of applications. In such cases, round cord rings are the best technical and economical solution.

Depending on the required cord diameter of 1.78 to 25.40 mm, extruders are used to produce round profiles, which are then cut to the required inside diameter and vulcanized at the ends.

This means that individual seals with an inner diameter of 50 (depending on the cord diameter) to .... mm can be produced. The process makes it possible to produce round cord rings with almost any diameter. There is no dependence on tools and the associated investments that are otherwise necessary for other molded parts such as O-rings. The round cord rings can be manufactured from a wide variety of elastomers depending on the application.

For chemical plants, for example, round cord rings are required that are extremely resistant to temperature and chemicals. In this case, an FPM (FKM) elastomer is processed and the round cords are manufactured using a process developed in-house. Wherever a seal that can be supplied at short notice is required for a repair or revision, a prototype for tests or for a small series, the round cord offers a good solution with an attractive price-performance ratio.

• For the cord diameter, the dimensional deviation according to DIN 7715 Part 3, Class E1/E2, or ± 0.8 percent for the circumference applies.

O-ring tolerances are not applicable for round cord rings.
