PFA coated O-rings

Structure

These O-rings consist of a seamless and uniform PFA encapsulation that completely surrounds a core material, in this case the elastomer silicone, silicone white, EPDM, FPM black or FPM white with FDA and USP class VI conformity. PFA encapsulated O-rings are specified like rubber O-rings with inner diameter x cross section (ID x QS). The minimum inner diameter is 5.28 mm, there are no upper limits. The cord thicknesses range from 1.60 mm to 32.00 mm (approx. 40 different diameters).

Properties

1) High resistance to chemicals due to PFA coating
2) Operating temperature range from -60 °C/-320 °F to +205 °C/400 °F
3) Non-stick properties / non-stick surface
4) Sterilizable, FDA conformity according to 21 CFR 177.1550
5) Low vapour permeability and minimal water absorption
6) Low compression set

Remarks

O-rings with PFA coating are practically resistant to almost all chemicals due to the coating. The PFA coating is fully integrated and has no weak points such as visible seams or overlaps.
The PFA coating of ECAP O-rings has a very low coefficient of friction. The elastomer core of ECAP-O-Rings ensures permanent contact with the sealing surfaces. ECAP O-rings combine the best qualities of PFA compounds and the elastomers silicone, EPDM or FPM. For this reason, these O-rings represent a cost-effective, efficient and economical solution for many critical sealing problems.

Performance features

High resistance to chemicals. Attacks by chemicals and swelling are the main reasons for O-ring failures. ECAP O-rings are practically chemically inert and do not swell.

They outperform solid PTFE O-rings in terms of performance. Encapsulated O-rings have the same resistance to chemicals as solid PTFE O-rings. ECAP O-rings have elasticity and recovery properties that are critical in many sealing applications.

Cost-effectiveness, in terms of efficiency and effectiveness, ECAP O-rings are replacing FFKM and other exotic O-ring composites. ECAP O-rings reduce downtime and therefore increase profitability in many cases.

Wide temperature range, ECAP O-rings withstand exposure to industrial solvents and corrosives at temperatures between -60°C / -75°F and +205°C / 400°F.

Non-stick surfaces allow easy removal of viscous media.

Low coefficient of friction, self-lubricating surface

Health, contamination of fluids by elastomers is prevented. Sterilizable and FDA compliant.

No size restrictions, the rings are available in standard and metric sizes in almost any size.

Low compression set: ECAP O-rings consist of a solid silicone or fluorocarbon core that is seamlessly encapsulated in PFA (with a wall thickness of 0.010 to 0.045 depending on the cross-section). This combination meets or exceeds the requirements of L-Pl389A and ASTM-D-2166.
